New York City terror attack: Live updates

Speaking at a news conference, Joon H. Kim, acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, said terror suspect Sayfullo Saipov committed Tuesday’s attack in support of ISIS.

Kim laid out evidence that investigators found in Saipov’s cellphones as well as a note that was left at the scene. He said the suspect’s note read, in part: “No god, but God. And Mohammed is his prophet and Islamic supplication. It will endure.”

Kim said the phrase, “It will endure,” is commonly used to refer to ISIS.

A second official added that by looking at the various pieces of the attack — how he obtained the vehicle, how he had secondary weapons inside — it was clear the suspect was “a follower of ISIS propaganda, social media and tactic instruction.”

Saipov has been charged with providing material support to ISIS and violence and destruction of motor vehicles.
